We loved getting a chance to meet with and get to know Karin Nelson & Melissa Moen at Becalm. The name says it all. The minute we walked in we felt at home, at ease and loving the calm spa vibe. They are available by appointment at this link. Karin and Melissa are passionate about what they do – giving people a break, a time to relax, a time to Becalm.
Here’s what Karin and Melissa had to say when we talked with them:
VH: From where do you hail?
Bc: We are both from Vashon originally. We both moved away and came back about 18 months ago.
VH: Tell us more about your business.
Bc: We offer massage, acupuncture and foot soak baths. We also carry a line of essential oils that we really love and we use them all the time with our practice.
VH: When did you start your business?
Bc: We just opened in November 2017 in the space above Amiad & Associates. But, we have both been working on and off the island for a long time. Duane Diedrickson did the build out for the space, making it exactly the environment we wanted when we decided to open this practice here.
VH: What is your superpower?
Bc: Giving people a break. Getting people really relaxed…that’s what we really love to do!
VH: When you have company visiting, where do you tell them to go?
Bc: Stargazing at the Marine park , loop trail or down to the water. Dockton park. Rob’s Lagoon. There are so many beautiful places to visit on the island.
VH: What’s the best thing you ever bought at Granny’s?
Bc: For Karin: a Norwegian Krumkake. My Grandma used make these – like a waffle iron that makes Norwegian waffle cookies made of flour, butter, eggs, sugar, and cream. Melissa: K2 roller blades. My dad worked at K2 for 30 years.
